Allen County is known for the largest courthouse square west of the Mississippi, and the beautiful Neosho River which winds along the western side of the county.  Iola is a bustling town that is home to 25 industries, including Russell Stovers, as well as the Allen County Community College. A "Rails-to-Trails" biking and hiking path connects Allen and Anderson counties, and draws tourists and visitors from across the region. The county is working to connect three county offices with economic development responsibilities with a computer database and network.
