With over 60 industries, Crawford County is one of the most industrialized counties in the
region. Coal mining used to be the main employer in the county, but the abandoned pits now draw anglers from all over the region.
Pittsburg, the largest community, is home to Pittsburg State University, the county's main employer. Economic development concerns are handled by a number of
entities including local chambers of commerce as well as a Convention and Visitors Bureau.
There is a strong sense of heritage in the county, and the "Little
Balkans Days Festival", is a popular event in the region.
