Higher educational resources in Miami County are accessible and outstanding. The Fort Scott
Community College Adult Education Center is located at the Paola Business Park, and the Technology Institute at Pittsburg State University, provides a superior educational program. Johnson County Community College (JCCC) is also a great help to the area. There are over twenty multi-purpose colleges, and universities within thirty minutes of the County.
Miami County’s agricultural economic base continues to be significant. A meaningful gain in population has been demonstrated by the recent construction of numerous higher priced housing units. Many factors have contributed to this pattern of growth, including enthusiastic local support and the strong appeal for urbanities that increasingly seek the advantages of a rural lifestyle.
The Miami County Airport, a general aviation facility, located halfway between Paola and Osawatomie has recently constructed Runway 4-22 and has installed MIRL, MITL, REILS, and PAPIS.
Out and about in Miami County, you’ll find an abundance of green space for outdoor activities. You can perfect your tennis serve on area courts or test your golf skills at Club of the County, near Louisburg, Sycamore Ridge, near Spring Hill, Osawatomie Golf Course or the Paola Country Club.
Hillsdale Lake, located in Miami County, Kansas, is one of the premier fishing lakes in Kansas.
It provides hunters, fisherman, picnickers, naturalists, photographers, birdwatchers, and sightseers with a unique opportunity to discover nature. Hunters will find a variety of game on Hillsdale's 8,000 acres of land. For the Fisherman, Hillsdale is known as one of the top Largemouth Bass lakes in the state. With its fifty-one acres of shoreline it provides fisherman with plenty of action.
