The region's diverse manufacturing base is key to our economy, supplying over one third of our jobs.  In March 2003 the Manufacturer Forum, an independent association, merged with Southeast Kansas, Inc. to become "The Manufacturers' Forum of SEK, Inc."  This merger heightens the awareness of the importance of manufacturing jobs, allows for a focused manufacturing legislative agenda, and provides monthly educational and networking sessions exclusively for the manufacturing industry.  The power of our manufacturing industry and the organizational structure of SEK, Inc. will allow us to accomplish more---together!

Manufacturers' Forum Legislative Position Statement

Workers Comp and Unemployment Comp

The Manufacturers’ Forum of SEK, Inc. whose members are your constituents and who represent the legislative position of all manufacturers in your district, strongly urge the legislature to take immediate action to improve the unhealthy business environment and reduce the cost of doing business in Kansas; specifically

  1. Change the Workers Compensation statute to be more employer friendly and less costly with regard to the treatment of pre-existing conditions, enforcement of the law, fraudulent claims, consideration of the aging process on the body and aggravation of pre-existing injuries;

  2. Change the eligibility rules for unemployment compensation regarding random drug testing, extended benefits, absenteeism and work sharing;

  3. Defeat the proposed establishment of a state OSHA agency independent of KDHR, which would create unnecessary red tape and additional costs since the agency would be dependent upon fines and fees levied against manufacturers to exist.
