PROJECT GOALS

We need to find the people who have left the area . How? Through high school alumni associations; parents of those who have left; community homecoming mailing lists; graduates of community colleges and Pittsburg State University.

Local Chambers can work with these entities identified above (and there may be more in your community ) and help us build the database of potential contacts.

Operation Back Home Again to Kansas will identify and survey these contacts determining employment history and status education levels, training experience, income ranges, income needed to be enticed to return, and housing and leisure interests. This data will also be requested from spouses.

The data will be processed and classified from the respondents for referral to existing employers and prospective employers.

We will establish a secondary labor pool to draw from and expand our existing labor pool over time.

We will increase accessibility and availability of skilled and semi-skilled workers for present and prospective employers by not less than 5% within the region over a five-year period.

What is our potential for growth?

There are approximately 26-28 high schools in the region with an average of 100 graduates each year who are potentially leaving the area. Multiply by 30 years for graduates (with a reach to age 48+) there is an estimated 84,000 who have left the area and may want to return.

There are many who want to return, we just need to invite them Back Home Again to Kansas. Our goal is to reach 80,000 former residents.
What can your chamber do to be a part of this recruitment mission?
  • ACT upon the desire to be a part of this effort to bring native Kansans back to our area.
  • Help identify the people in your community who have access to the data bases for your high school alumni; community homecoming, etc. and or names of people you know who have an interest in returning to Kansas
  • Supply these items:
One sheet of your Chamber’s letterhead
The signature of you or your President’s for the introduction letter and survey
A supply of envelopes for the mailing (quantity to be determined later)
Southeast Kansas, Inc. will be responsible for:
  • Receiving the alumni information from your community and prepare the introduction letter and survey
  • Receiving the survey information and build the database of prospects interested in moving back to Kansas
